Today I bought a blazer for €9.69
But that wasn’t scintillating enough for others. The piece of information that really got others excited was the original price.
The blazer initially cost €96!
That was the news that got jaws dropping.
A 90% discount is rare. It’s also a screaming bargain. These reductions are hidden gems and urban myths.
The question is though – would the news be as remarkable if the original price was lower?
What if the reduction wasn’t 90% but 90 cent?
Would it gain the same reaction in others?
I doubt it.
What if those setting the price could profit from selling the blazer for €1 and decided to create pandemonium by setting an extraordinarily high price only to reduce it?
I think it is the human motivation to avoid loss that compels people in this scenario to capitalize on a sale.
After all, as stated above, a 90% discount doesn’t come around all that often, you don’t want to be the one schmuck who squandered the opportunity.
