Making time

As well as being relative, time can be a source of guilt.

If you believe you have one shot at life, a life that can end at any moment then there is immense pressure to spend each moment wisely.

The shame arrives when we look back on the past and tally up all the time wasted.

All the hours scrolling through social media, binge watching TV shows you’ve already seen or even tumbling down YouTube rabbit holes.

We beat ourselves up about our procrastination and avoidance tactics but it’s understandable really.

The alternative is to sit quietly with oneself and make tough decisions.

Decisions like what do I want to do with my life? How do I want to spend my time? What am I really interested?

Between the guilt and existential dread it’s a sweet spot for agony.

It’s easy to see how clickbait distracts us.

I think you can’t spend every minute of every day being productive but you can choose what you want to make time for.

For example I aim to write a blog post everyday.

That means everyday I make sure to make time to sit down and craft a blog post.

Once I have achieved my daily task I can then consume as much TV and social media as I like, guilt free.

What do you make time for?
