Empathy for charades

Playing games like charades or 30 seconds is a great way to see how people think.

It’s very impressive to see two people on the same wavelength breezing through the prompts effortlessly.

It’s very entertaining to see two people on completely different wavelengths struggling to align.

‘How the hell does that mean Amsterdam?’

‘How does it not?’

I think empathy is the key to this game.

To bridge the gap between someone who knows the answer and someone who doesn’t you need to understand your partner’s point of view.

So describing Amsterdam as the drug capital of Europe may work perfectly for Keith, who enjoys the occasional joint, but ineffective with Deirdre who would’ve prefered the clue – the city with the Anne Frank museum.
