Cognitive fatigue is real.
It’s easy to unpack a box, it’s simple to move a bookshelf but making decisions is taxing.
The way I see it there’s physical fatigue and there’s mental fatigue.
To use the bookshelf as an example it may be a physically demanding task but it is a simple task. It doesn’t require much brain power. All it takes is muscle and energy to complete the task.
But to decide where the best place is for the bookshelf in relation to the room, how it fits with the other furniture and what order the books should be in (eg. Alphabetically or chronologically or by subject etc). That requires brain power and decision making. The more decisions made the more fatiguing it gets.
Moving requires both kinds of energy and it can be exhausting.
