In my 27 years on this fine earth I have seen that the bigger problems are not solved with a quick fix.
You do not gain a six pack after one workout.
A marriage is not saved after one conversation.
And depression doesn’t leave after one session.
I also agree with Prof Dr Peters when he says that commitment is more important than motivation when it comes to achieving your goals.
Therefore I think it is important to ask ourselves, before we embark on any journey, project or endeavour – Am I willing to committ to the hard times?
Do you care enough about the outcome that you will sign up for the inevitable frustration?
If not, then quit and save yourself time and effort.
If yes, then you’re in it to end and you need never question your commitment again because you subscribed to this pain.
For example I do not care enough about being good at tennis that I am willing to spend 20 hours a week practicing. I am happy to be poor at tennis.
Daily blogging on the other hand – I’m committed.
I can’t complain about the torture of writing because I chose this path.
If I face difficulty then my prior commitment will hold me to find a solution.
The adversity will push me to source better working methods.
I can’t remember who said it but he said if I ever hear the phrase
‘I’m thinking about becoming an actor’
he immediately labels the speaker as – never becoming an actor.
Because it’s so hard to become an actor that if you’re sitting on the fence you’re not going to put in the hours and that means you’re not going to make it.
In this person I can’t remember’s eyes anyway.
So… to bring this post to a close, I ask you reader, what are you committed to?
