I think the majority of surprising anger stems from the un-evolved brain stem.

The Neanderthal section that takes over when someone cuts us off in traffic.

The interaction may have appeared completely innocent to you but triggering to someone else.

I think reminding ourselves that we are all capable of such primitive reactions helps to make sense of shocking outbursts.
