Moneyball Dinosaurs

It’s been really impressive to see some of the innovations businesses have carried out adapting to this global pandemic.

Tons of restaurants hurried to the web to create themselves a website and bolster their online presence.

One restaurant in my local area pivoted entirely to become a fine wine shop. All the tables and chairs have been pushed to the back and shelves upon shelves of expensive wine now take up the floor.

And then there are those who refuse to change, who shut up shop waiting for normal to return.

But when normal does return, whenever that is, who’s says it’s going to be one you recognise?

Who’s to say the global population will not be forever changed after the restrictions finally lift?

It all feels very Darwinian and I’m reminded of what John Henry says in ‘Moneyball’:

“Anybody who’s not building a team right and rebuilding it using your model, they’re dinosaurs. They’ll be sitting on their ass on the sofa in October, watching the Boston Red Sox win the World Series”

Change is painful but extinction is excruciating.
