Non fiction waffle

You would think non fiction books would be immune to the shortening attention span crisis.

After all, the reader knows what they’re getting into. This medium is low tech and this genre is not a story.

And yet.

And yet I find myself extremely grateful for short, sharp, punchy prose and increasing difficulty concentrating on long winded waffle.

I don’t think it’s just me either.

I find those who buy books are in the minority these days.

And those who buy non fiction books are a minority within that minority.

And those who actually take the time to sit down and read are an even smaller subset within that minority.

Other subsets include those who listen to books through services like Audible (usually whilst doing something else) and those who buy the ‘condensed into 15 minutes’ version.

Both behaviours indicating the audience deems that they don’t have enough time to sit down and actually read the book.

So waffle at your own risk I think!
