Artificial productivity

“Is Jason working today?”

“Well he’s replying to emails, so he must be!”

Tunnel vision has the advantage of productivity but a quick response time to emails portrays the impression of a work ethic.

In this modern remote working world where managers can’t physically see you at your laptop, I think the fear is an unreplied email is a sign of dossing.

I think the insecure employee imagines the sender attributing the response delay to laziness rather than busyness.

And so, some real productivity is sacrificed for artificial productivity.
