Idealised hero worshipping

I think when it comes to hero worshipping the default is to take an idealised view.

When we reminisce about Michael Jordan we talk about his time at the Bulls and omit his stint at the Wizards.

It pains us to see Elvis at the end, so we watch reruns of his earlier days.

And I think this stems from a desire to believe in gods.

We want to think these individuals are not mere mortals but superhumans who have the Midas touch and unlimited power.

So we gloss over their faults because that is proof that they are human beings and instead wax lyrical about their strengths and get misty eyed about their glory days.
