Thinking practice

It appears to me that the instruction manual dominates today’s working world.

The average worker thinks the first time, then mindlessly copies and pastes the rest of the time.

Now I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with that.

Habits, systems and processes infinitely improve productivity.

But I think the consistent presence of instruction manuals means that an easy way to instantly stress someone out is to give them an unknown task with absolutely no guidance on how to complete it.

I think when someone offers us the chance to think in today’s world we should grab that opportunity with both hands.

Because thinking, in a time where AI is getting better and better at following instructions, is going to become an increasingly valuable skill.

So best to get as much practice in before Skynet launches.
