Awards night is coming up and you ask yourself will I go? Which of course is answered by the next question that pops into your head… Do I have a chance of winning?
And eventually the optimistic side of you wins over and says ‘Ya! You’re definitely gonna win something, you should go!’
So you’re sitting there as they start the introductions. And the internal debate begins.
You know I’ve got a good chance here.
No there’s no way you’re going to win it, look at the people in the running for it.
And it goes back and forth and back and forth.
Then finally your category comes up and the anticipation builds to a climax.
But of course you don’t win, and all of sudden you hate these stupid awards and feeling quite dejected you want to get out of there as quick as possible.
So the trick is to avoid the whole emotional rollercoaster and enjoy your night regardless.
One way you can do this is by not having the award as your goal. Instead focus on the important things. Like how many colleagues did you connect with, how many customers did you help out, how much problem solving did you do?
