I used to work behind the til in a shop and there would be nothing worse than a customer who was super chatty and want to get to know me. As a teenager I found it super annoying. I would scan quicker in order to get rid of them. Upon reflection I think these types … Continue reading Friendship in a transaction

Slagging others
It seems to me that men of a certain generation would try to bond by slagging each other. I can understand this when the relationship is years old, and the slagging is the established norm and both parties enjoy it. But when the relationship is new I think it's a terrible approach because on the … Continue reading Slagging others
Golf and overachievers
Golf is a terrible sport for overachievers. Why? Because when you're starting off, you're naturally going to be bad at it. And in golf there is an abundance of time for contemplating how bad you are. The average 18 holes takes 3 hours. That's 3 hours of feeling sub par. Compare that to team sports … Continue reading Golf and overachievers
Turning to inner peace
I think when someone's goal is inner peace they're usually in a certain stage in life and it certainly wasn't their first goal. When they were kids all they wanted to do was play. Then they became young adults and they wanted adventure. Then when the desire for adventure faded, they wanted to make a … Continue reading Turning to inner peace

But finally I pluck up the courage to say I'm not getting sucked into today's shenanigans and I leave … Continue reading Addictive drama

I bet it's going to … Continue reading Joni’s self discovery
Bot blaming
I think there is a temptation with AI to lay all the blame on the bot. "Oh well that's what the transcript said" "This is what the bot gave me, is it right?" But I think as humans who are getting paid, we have to take responsibility for understanding what's going on. For example calls, … Continue reading Bot blaming
Phone down
Once you put down the phone, and lean in to your normal life you realize just how bloody boring the world can be.Now if you can resist the temptation for the phone long enough, that's when boredom kicks in and says 'ok, we can't use the phone but let's do something fun anyway'That's when the … Continue reading Phone down
Self help common sense
One of the biggest criticisms of the self help genre is that it's all wisdom you already know but haven't implemented yet. I think there's some merit to that criticism. It's also, I believe, the standard for a good self help book. The reader should benefit from something beyond common sense.
Fashion standards
Queer Eye is a great example of how people unconsciously default to the lowest possible standards. Especially in fashion. Before Tan arrives they are, without fail, wearing the most casual outfits possible. And Tan's constant refrain is to elevate their standards. It's not drastic, he doesn't push them to wear tuxedos and ball gowns. It's … Continue reading Fashion standards
